"Hackenwerth is not the first fine artist to embrace the balloon as a medium. Between 2002 and 2007, Holly Crawford's site specific 13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird made its way through a series of European galleries before ending up at The LAB in New York City where she filled the space with black balloons and enticed passers-by to pop them. ....Crawford's and Kori's work were marked by a since of play and attempted to engage the viewer by inviting them to contribute."

These two genres of art-making may be construed as decidedly distinct from one another. Her site-specific installation, "Thirteen Ways of Looking at Blackbird" (Florence, Italy, 2002) is reminiscent of an Ernesto Neto installation with its creation of a space to walk into - participatory environment. Through her placement of 1700 balloons into the gallery space, Crawford allows the installation to become a mutable environment for its audience.... "
